Mallikarjun Kharge names Uday Bhanu Chib as new president of Indian Youth Congress, replacing Srinivas BV

On Sunday, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge appointed former Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Youth Congress chief Uday Bhanu Chib as the new leader of the Indian Youth Congress (IYC).

“Hon’ble Congress President has appointed Shri Uday Bhanu Chib, currently General Secretary of the Indian Youth Congress and former President of the Jammu & Kashmir Pradesh Youth Congress, as the President of the Indian Youth Congress, with immediate effect,” announced Congress General Secretary KC Venugopal.

He added, “The party appreciates the contributions of the outgoing President, Shri Srinivas BV.”

Uday Bhanu Chib’s appointment coincides with the ongoing assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir, where he previously led the Youth Congress unit. Additionally, Chib served on the Congress’s manifesto committee for the J&K elections.

On Friday, the Congress leader posted a picture with Rahul Gandhi, Leader of the Opposition in Lok Sabha, and wrote, “A Memorable meet with My LEADER @RahulGandhi ji! Your struggle and perseverance for social justice is an inspiration to all of us.”

Who is Uday Bhanu Chib?

Congress leader from Jammu and Kashmir Uday Bhanu Chib previously led the Jammu & Kashmir Pradesh Youth Congress. Chib has also served as the general secretary of the IYC.

Uday Bhanu Chib also played a role in shaping the Congress’s manifesto for the Jammu & Kashmir Assembly elections as a member of the manifesto committee.

Srinivas BV’s Leadership of Indian Youth Congress

Congress leader from Karnataka, Srinivas V had taken over the position from Keshav Chand Yadav, a Congress leader from Uttar Pradesh who served the role from May 2018 July 2019.

Srinivas BV was appointed as the President of Indian Youth Congress in August 2019. Srinivas is a politician from Shimoga district of Karnataka.

He was a cricket player who had played for under-19 and under-16 Karnataka cricket team. He was in the news for his online responses and relief works with along his associates during the COVID-19 pandemic in Delhi.
