Lizzo made a bold impression at the 2025 Met Gala in New York City on May 5, debuting a striking new look and noticeably slimmer figure. The “Truth Hurts” singer wore a black-and-white corset gown with a dramatic mermaid skirt, topped with a cropped blazer draped over her shoulders. She complemented the ensemble with a cigarette prop and showcased her newly dyed blonde hair on the iconic Met steps.
Themed “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style,” this year’s gala celebrated Black dandyism and explored how clothing shapes Black identity across the Atlantic diaspora, according to the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Lizzo’s ensemble aligned with the event’s theme while highlighting her evolving sense of style.
Ahead of the event, Lizzo shared a video of herself posing in the outfit on Instagram, writing, “Met… here I come!” The clip gave fans a close-up of her plunging neckline and sculpted silhouette.
The Met Gala moment follows growing public interest in Lizzo’s health and body image journey. During a recent appearance on Jay Shetty’s “On Purpose” podcast, the 37-year-old artist opened up about the pressure of public commentary. “This is your body. You only get one of these: enjoy her and let her enjoy you,” she shared, reflecting on how media portrayal of weight changes affected her self-esteem from a young age.
She also addressed the perception that her transformation happened overnight. “The headline may say ‘Lizzo’s skinny,’ but that’s far from the truth,” she said, noting that most people aren’t aware of the gradual changes behind the scenes.
