The Office is officially getting a spinoff.

NBCUniversal’s Upfront event on Monday gave viewers their first glimpse at The Paper, a mockumentary-style comedy that shifts the iconic format from a paper company to an actual newsroom.

Set in Toledo, Ohio, The Paper follows a ragtag crew of underdog journalists trying to keep a struggling Midwestern publication, The Truth Teller, alive.

The new series stars Domhnall Gleeson, Oscar Nuñez, and Sabrina Impacciatore, and will debut this September on Peacock.

Nuñez reprises his role as Oscar, now relocated from Dunder Mifflin to The Truth Teller.

“I told Greg Daniels that Oscar should live somewhere more cosmopolitan,” Nuñez joked on stage. “He moved me to Toledo — which, yes, is three times the size of Scranton.”

Gleeson, who plays an entirely new character (despite teasing fans with a redhead joke referencing The Office‘s Meredith), described the cast as “an ensemble of underdog characters banding together to keep journalism alive.”

On social media, fans quickly reacted with a mix of excitement, nostalgia, and curiosity.

Others, however, were less sure.

Many fans on X were speculating whether the new show will be able to live upto the name of the original.

Even though that is a high-bar, many fans were also critical of American Television’s continued trend towards rehashing old ideas in place of new ones.

Speculation also swirled after Angela Kinsey (Angela) revealed that she and Jenna Fischer (Pam) had visited the set.

While no official cast cameos beyond Nuñez have been confirmed, the behind-the-scenes reunion has fueled hopes for more familiar faces.

The series is helmed by The Office creator Greg Daniels and Nathan for You co-creator Michael Koman, with executive production credits going to Ricky Gervais, Stephen Merchant, and other original collaborators.
